Amazon delists millions of fake health products

时间:2020-02-29

Recently, for those products on the platform that claim to cure or defend against coronavirus, Amazon said it has banned sales of more than one million products within a few weeks. At the same time, Amazon has removed tens of thousands of transactions from merchants in an attempt to price fraud on customers.

These numbers reflect the protection Amazon provides as a world's largest e-commerce platform to consumers and normal business operators. It also shows its responsibility for the reasonable sale of relevant formal protective equipment during the special period of the new crown virus epidemic. Bad behaviors such as false publicity and price hikes will be severely cracked by Amazon.

In fact, this is not the first time Amazon has taken action against fake protective items during the outbreak. As early as February, an Amazon seller of "corovirus masks" was investigated, and one of the seller's top mask products in the health and personal care category was also removed by the platform.

In addition to this seller, there are many mask products sold by sellers on the Amazon platform marked "CORONAVIRUS (Coronavirus)", suggesting that it has a certain effect on the prevention of coronavirus, but whether these masks can really prevent the wearer Coronavirus infection or transmission, but the seller did not provide any relevant information.

The above-mentioned false propaganda and soaring prices were all caused by the recent outbreak of the new crown virus. Since the outbreak of the new crown virus on the eve of the Spring Festival, it has gradually spread worldwide. At the same time, protective equipment such as masks and medical alcohol were quickly snapped up.

On January 21, Amazon's self-operated medical masks were out of stock; on February 5, Amazon's self-operated protective clothing was sold out. The sales of these products are enough to see the strong impact of the epidemic on the market. You know, Amazon ’s self-employed protective clothing was last sold out during the Ebola outbreak in the summer of 2018.

With severe supply exceeding demand and the fact that Amazon's self-protected products are sold out, a large number of fake and shoddy protective products have appeared one after another, and the behavior of hoarding goods and driving up prices has also begun to occur.

According to Jungle Scout data, within a period of time after Amazon's proprietary products were out of stock, the price of the N95 mask on the platform soared, rising by 582% at one time, from the previous 13.28 USD to 63.95 USD. In addition, rumors such as vitamin C can cure the new crown virus, and other related products have also ushered in a hot wave of sales.

It is precisely in order to curb this epidemic that made a lot of money. In mid-February, several U.S. technology giants, including Amazon, met with the World Health Organization (WHO) at Facebook headquarters to make mistakes on the new crown virus on their platforms Discuss how the information is blocked.

Amazon also said last week that it is removing related fake protection products on the platform. It also sent a notice to third-party sellers via email, stating that it would remove products that claim to treat or alleviate New Coronavirus pneumonia. The removal of more than one million items also shows the strength of Amazon's platform governance.

In fact, in addition to Amazon, as the earliest outbreak of the epidemic in China, false masks and price increases have also occurred on domestic e-commerce platforms. And domestic e-commerce platforms have adopted tough governance measures.

According to the Pinduoduo Anti-epidemic Working Group data, from January 23 to February 4 at 20:00, due to suspected temporary price adjustments, false shipments, and product quality, the platform has intercepted and removed more than 500,000 related products. ; For acts involving false publicity and keywords, the platform has processed more than 6,000 related stores, at the same time, closed and cleared more than 40 stores.

Another e-commerce giant, Ali, also said in early February that it had permanently cleared 15 stores suspected of selling masks in question, of which five had been transferred to law enforcement agencies. After that, the Alibaba Platform Governance Department once again issued the "most stringent mask ban", which will take "zero tolerance" measures against problematic masks and violating sellers.

Changes in market supply and demand will naturally affect prices and other factors, but merchants also need to understand that at the moment of the epidemic, humans belong to a community of destiny. We should help each other and maintain a good social and platform order. The behavior of getting rich through the epidemic will not only be unable to obtain long-term benefits, but will also be severely cracked down by the platform.
